Cinnamon Toast Strata

A comforting, show-stopping brunch centerpiece that's as easy as it is delicious. Take slices of our signature challah bread, slather them in sweet cinnamon-sugar butter, and bake them into a golden, puffed custard. Perfect for hosting, you can assemble this dish up to 24 hours in advance! Simply pop it in the oven when you're ready to serve.


Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Strata

  • 10 slices challah Bread (with or without raisins)
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 3 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 4 eggs

Directions

  1. Strata: Trim crust from bread. In small bowl mix together butter, sugar and cinnamon. Spread on 5 of the bread slices. Cut diagonally into quarters to make triangles.
  2. Arrange triangles longest side down overlapping and curving slightly around edge of greased deep 10" pie plate. Arrange remaining triangles in tight circle in center
  3. Whisk milk with eggs until blended and pour over triangles in dish. (This can now be refrigerated up to 24 hours making this a great make-ahead recipe!)
  4. In small bowl combine sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over triangles. Bake uncovered in center of 350F oven approx. 45 min. or until puffed and golden. Let stand on rack 10 min.
